F.O.O.D Week goes green

As part of the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for development.

F.O.O.D Week is taking part in an environmental audit of its signature events for the purposes of creating a benchmark for future F.O.O.D Week events. Similar to many large-scale events, F.O.O.D Week has sought the need to assess its carbon footprint.

A couple of measures have already been put in place for this year’s festival.

This year at Forage no plastic water bottles will be used, instead 2000 stainless steel canisters have been ordered and will be filled with water by the staff at Wangarang and put into guest forage bags. In addition, the event organisers have undertaken to use biodegradable food vessels and compost all food waste from events such as the Night Market, Forage and 100 Mile Dinner. This year at the night market we will be calling on the public to help us manage the rubbish at the night market by using the correct bins.

These are just a couple of small steps that the F.O.O.D Week Committee have put in place to begin a process of building a more sustainable event in the years to come.
